Yup, that's the latest motivatonal challenge for two twelve yr. old boys that are just swinging into a new routine with a new math book: Saxon 7/6!
It has been a great beginning to this new year of schooling at home...
We started last Tuesday, and so far there's one boy with a one hundred on a lesson.
But today, mom took a little nap while they were supposed to be in the family room working...discipline to work quietly hasn't yet been attained and because of that, the noisy one had seven wrong...careless mistakes, too.
Grampa said he was my 'watchdog' and that if they were in a 'real' school, the one would be sitting in a corner!
...the other dear boy had two wrong, and they were careless mistakes, as well...(he blamed his brother for being so noisy!)
Noisy boy really got down on himself, but, to me, it was an opportunity to discuss character, diligence, and hurting oneself by his actions...oh, those teachable moments.
Gotta love it.
As I told this dear one:
Getting a problem wrong isn't the issue...it's the heart and desire and focus.
Rejoice with me as you train your children, whether they're home all day with you or not. These teachable moments are always available if we are paying attention~
{I do hope this 'reward' doesn't backfire on me and every Friday they get their fifth 100, because they are supposed to do Math on Saturdays. This 'free day' seems more peaceful when two boys sit for two hours working their brains...!!!)
